Tanzanian Safari - Serengeti, Ngorongoro & Tarangire National Parks

Ready to head out on a safari (unfortunately only had an iPhone so some photos are not very clear)

We enjoyed watching these 6 baboons playing and de-licing each other. Have a funny video of them but could not upload it here

Out of the blue, this cheetah emerged from the forest and walked right up to our vehicle. It's eyes were fixed on a gazelle

Moments later, the cheetah jumped on the hood of the car in front of us to get a better view of the gazelle

Up close with a lion & lioness - they spend up to 18 hrs a day sleeping

Ngorongoro Crater - was teeming with wildlife

Kissing giraffes

8 happy hippos wallowing in this pond. Have a video of 2 of them coming out of the water fighting and roaring at each other

Buffalo - one of the "big 5"

Sacred Ibis

Pair of ostriches

Up close with a giraffe - they graze on acacia trees that have long sharp thorns but giraffe's tongues are leathery so no problem

Impala harem - lone male just right of centre

Black-backed jackal

Wildebeest migration - over 1.5 million strong

Hyena - waiting around to scavenge a lion kill

Closest we could get to these Rhinos - this is taken by holding my iPhone up to a pair of binoculars. Hyena to the right, wildebeests behind and gazelles out front

Thomson's gazelle - gazelles, zebras and wildebeests stick together, safety in numbers; zebras see well, wildebeests hear better and gazelles have a keen sense of smell so they warn each other of impending danger

Vultures feeding on a buffalo carcass

Dizzying zebras

Up close with an elephant

Herd of elephants - we counted 50 in this herd
